5 Tips for Planning the Perfect Party

Parties are meant to be fun, but if you’re the person doing the planning, they can also be stressful. Follow these five simple tips to plan your party like a pro, and you will be able to relax and enjoy the event just as much as your guests do.

Get Organised

Add the date of your party to your calendar as soon as you have decided it and then work backwards adding in everything that you need to do in the days before. Make a to-do list and congratulate yourself every time you tick something off. Your to-do list can be handwritten, or you can also use one of the many apps that are available for the purpose.

When planning a party, some jobs will be more fun than others so make sure that you don’t leave all the boring jobs to the last minute. Try to prioritise tasks by how important and urgent they are rather than how much you want to do them.

Choose a Theme

Whether it’s full-on fancy dress, a particular decade, or just your favourite colour, having a theme in mind can help you to create a party with a cohesive professional look. Once you have decided your theme, then choosing décor, food, and drinks that go together will be much easier.

If you find yourself struggling for inspiration, create a mood board. This can be done either by using a notice board or on your PC or tablet, simply search online or in magazines for pictures relating to your theme and then add them to the board.

Time Your Invitations

Sending your invitations out at the right time can make the difference between a lively buzzing party and an awkward, quiet affair with too much food left over. Invite people too early, and they may forget about your party, too late and they may already have plans.

The ideal time for sending out invites is usually three to four weeks before the party, this way people have time to clear their calendar and make arrangements such as travel and babysitters but it’s not so far in advance that the event can easily be forgotten.

Plan Your Menu

A hungry guest is an unhappy guest so make sure that there are plenty of snacks available for your guests to graze on. Buffets and finger foods are often a popular choice for parties as providing a range of small food items helps to ensure that there is something for everyone.

Another bonus of choosing buffet food is that guests can help themselves, giving you more time to mingle and enjoy your party.

Make it Memorable

Give your event the wow factor by planning some entertainment. Whether you are making your own playlist or hiring a DJ consider the mood and theme of your party before selecting the tunes to go with it.

Organising a photo booth for your event can generate a real buzz, giving guests a photo souvenir to take home and guaranteeing that your party will be talked about long after it is over.
